The Bunbury is a small theatre in Louisville that was in need of a complete identity overhaul. Four classmates and I did this pro bono to help this local business that wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.

My role was designing the logo mark, the pattern associated with it, and social media templates for the client to use.

This was a three month long collaborative project where we worked together through the process of interviewing the client, creating a creative brief, doing research, making stylescapes, and designing the work together until we were able to hand off a full brand standards to the client with many examples of how to use their new identity.

Not having an onboard designer, they needed clear examples and templates for how to use photography and typography in a composition. We designed these posters, postcards, and brochures to give them the guidance for designing in different circumstances.

It was not in our scope to develop a website, but we had to at least give them examples of how the identity could work in this context.

When we suggested to them that it might be better to go by "The Bunbury" rather than "The Bunbury Theatre Company," they reacted positively. They secretly wanted to for a while and just needed someone to use different legal and public names.

"The Bunbury" would be used with more familiar items such as on site signs and banners. And "The Bunbury Theatre" would be used for advertisements and merchandise to let people know what "The Bunbury" is. "The Bunbury Theatre Company" lockup was made in case they wanted to use it for business to business contexts.

Thank you for checking out this project!

Personal Reflection

This was the first long term team project I had ever done. It was difficult at the beginning due to lack of direction and very little guidance, feedback, or communication from the client. Though, once we were able to get a handle on the project it was quite a smooth process. We set up a schedule with deadlines that was ambitious but reasonable, and met it without disappointing each other.

The biggest benefit I found working with a team is the constant dialogue and feedback we all got and gave during the process. If one of us needed help with a certain category of the project, the others could support us.

This was also my first time working with a client. This made me nervous at first, but with a team of other capable designers it's difficult to stay discouraged for long. The client was very happy with all of the work that we made.

Something that will always stick with me was during the presentation where we handed off the standards and assets to the client, they said that they were nervous about what they would see, but as soon as they saw the logo they knew that we understood them and got it right. I'm very proud to have designed that logo with my team's feedback and it was fantastic to be a part of this project.
